The REAL deal on WRINKLES
Most of us don't love our wrinkles. Go figure people not being keen on an unavoidable tell tale sign of aging, right!? While there are all sorts of topical products to help combat the visual appearance of these little buggers, there are also other things that regard lifestyle changes that you can make to help. ( My personal favorite topicals are retinols, vitamin c's and ceramides. Please do call or come in if you are in need of a topical regimen for anti-aging.) Here are some reasons why we get wrinkles and how to combat their appearance.
We will start with a fact that EVERYONE hates because it is really up to chance. Genetics plays a large role in the way that we age. Now that doesn't necessarily mean that you are destined to be as wrinkled as your oldest most aged grandparents. It does, however give you a road map of what to do and what not to do to have better skin. If your mother is covered in "sun spots" slathering with SPF is a good idea, and so on.
Now we can get to things that you can control to help combat the signs of aging.
Hydration is obviously extremely important for skin health as well as general wellness. Hydrated skin takes on a smooth appearance that naturally plumps up fine lines and wrinkles. Texture and color are also dramatically effected by levels of hydration or lack there of. Dehydration effects the skin in a multitude of ways. It can actually cause breakouts due to over production of sebum, to make up for a lack of hydration. Irritation, sensitivity, dry patches, and discoloration are also an effect of lack of hydration. Drink at least 1/2 a gallon a day for good measure. All in all, no one wants to look like a raisin....right?!
Sleep Position can play a large part in lines and wrinkles developing. Hypothetically, if you sleep on one side of your face every night wrinkles are going to be accelerated or exaggerated in that area due to gravity, pressure and your collagen and connective tissues losing strength as we age. Try sleeping on a silk pillowcase as to be more gentle on your skin and try to alternate your sleeping position nightly, or sleep on your back propped up with pillows to avoid playing a negative role in wrinkle development. I am the absolute worst at this because I literally sleep on my face every night!
Sun Exposure probably plays the largest role in prematurely aging our skin. SPF FOR LIFE!!! NO, really though.... I mean EVERY DAY even when its cold and cloudy. I suggest a nontoxic pharmaceutical brand for the most adequate protection like Epionce Ultra Shield Lotion SPF 50 or for those who need a little bit of tinted coverage I like Revision Intellishade in Matte or Original.
Vision Problems can also be the culprit of some of those pesky forehead and between the eye brow creases. If you feel yourself needing to squint or strain your eyes to see, it is about time to see an ophthalmologist for an eye exam. Early detection is best, so have your eyes checked periodically. Your forehead will that you later.
Smoking is also a big contributor to premature aging, so just don't if you're concerned about your physical appearance and internal health. Buy shoes instead!
