In search of the perfect wedding tan?
Your Wedding Day. You have dreamed about this day and you have all the details planned - THE perfect dress, down to your shoes. The string quartet, to the surprise gelato & donut bar at the after party. Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue... NOT ORANGE.
With all eyes on you, every bride wants to look and feel her best on her big day. And the perfect compliment to that perfect-shade-of-white dress... the perfect glow. Here are our top tips for finding that perfect {faux} tan:
1. Do the rehearsal. Whether you are a seasoned pro or a nervous new tanner, test out your tan first to find the right shade for you. Always try your tan at least 2 weeks before your wedding (maybe try it for your Bridal Shower or Bachelorette weekend). That way, in case something did go wrong, you have time for it to fade so you can try again.
2. Choose the best product. If you are going for a professional tan, choose your spray tan artist carefully. Look up reviews, check out the salon, and be very picky! Choose a product that is good for your skin, doesn’t streak, has a moisturizing formula and is free of toxins.
3. Take pictures. Ever thought your makeup looked flawless until that unfortunate selfie? Same goes for your tan. Lighting can make all the difference in that perfect glow or that predictable pumpkin shade that looks good on noone.
4. Prep your skin. Use a gentle scrub to exfoliate your skin and remove dead skin cells for a flawless application. Don't wait until the last minute to shave. Shave 12-24 hours before your tan to allow time for your pores to close (and minimize burning for sensitive skin.) If you don't already, make a body moisturizer your BFF and apply it every day so that your skin is conditioned and will be prepared for a long lasting tan. Just make sure that it is a non-oily formula with no address fragrance or essential oils that can fade your tan. And don't apply your moisturizer the day of your tan, as it can act as a barrier and the solution won't be absorbed.
5. Follow your aftercare instructions. Wear loose clothing, including undergarments, to avoid creating lines in your tan. (Zebras aren't your thing, trust us) and DO NOT get wet. No contact with water for at least 6-8 hours (that includes washing your hands!) unless you receive a Rapid Tan formula. When it's time to shower, rinse with water only until the water runs clear; do not exfoliate or use body gels as these can strip the color of the tan, or worse, it can throw off the pH in your skin and cause your faux glow to turn green or orange.
6. RELAX. It's time to get married!
7. Now that you have the perfect faux glow for your big day, you can maintain it with bronzers and self-tanners like Vita Liberata's Body Blur or pHenomical mouse. Remember to ensure the life of your tan by continuing to prep your skin and follow your aftercare.
